The Richard Mille RM 65-01 collection, with its high-frequency self-winding split-seconds function, is the most complex self-winding model in the brand s portfolio, thanks to the artisanal assembly of more than 600 precision components within a frame measuring 44.50 x 49.94 x 16.10 mm. The RM 65-01 collection has been available in a variety of materials, including Red gold and Carbon TPT carbon fibre, titanium, Carbon TPT carbon fibre, grey Quartz TPT quartz fibre, etc. For 2024, the Quartz TPT quartz fibre will be available in a new colour - dark yellow - limited to only 120 pieces. The Quartz TPT Quartz Fibre is a composite material developed by NTPT (North Thin Ply Technology). It consists of multiple layers of silicon dioxide fibres, each of which has a special resin developed exclusively for Richard Mille and is processed and moulded under high pressures and high temperatures, thus enhancing the durability of the case. The crown and pushers are made of titanium, and the quick-winding pushers at 8 o clock are made of blue Quartz TPT quartz fibre. The dial layout is colour-coded to differentiate the functional modules, with a 30-minute counter at 3 o clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o clock, a seconds counter at 6 o clock, an hour and minute hand in the centre, and two chronograph split-seconds hands. The vertical digital date window at 11 o clock and the sector disc at 5 o clock are the crown status indicators, which can be switched between traditional manual winding (W), semi-instantaneous date setting (D) or setting the time (H) simply by pressing the crown. Developed in collaboration with Richard Mille and Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, the RMAC4 calibre has a six-tooth column wheel structure and a vertical clutch. The special design of the column wheel effectively reduces the tremor that may occur when the seconds hand is activated, and also reduces the loss of power. The RMAC4 movement s automatic disc further enhances the torque state, which can be adjusted according to the wearer s activity habits, or whether the wearer is in motion or not, to regulate the efficiency of the mainspring winding. The automatic disc is divided into three positions to adjust the inertia of the automatic disc. If the wearer has fewer wrist swings, the speed of winding can be adjusted to accelerate, while if the wearer is often engaged in strenuous exercise, the speed of winding can be slowed down, such a humanised design fully demonstrates the pattern of a top-class sports watch. In addition, the chronograph has been subjected to a series of stringent tests to ensure its proper functioning under all conditions. These range from simulated shock and drop tests to 10-year accelerated ageing tests for all functions, as well as tests for water resistance and resistance to magnetic fields. Another milestone was the development by Richard Mille of the first in-house patented quick-winding device, which requires only 125 presses on the button at 8 o clock for the barrel to be fully wound and ready to time important events. Described by the Manufacture s engineers as very interesting , this practical feature was particularly difficult to develop due to the high level of torque transfer required.
